Bear MACE on Hand

I live in Southern Arizona where the Monument Fire just ran me out of my house this past weekend.  Its burning the Huachuca Mountains.  While I’ve not seen a bear down in the valley where I live, I’m sure they’re having to be very active right now and people who live anywhere near the outskirts of the mountains need to have bear MACE handy.  All animals in this area are much more active than they would normally be this time of year.

For instance, twice in the past two days, I’ve seen coyotes at my house.  Now, its normal to see one or two a week.  But, its not normal to see one a day.  What’s the correlation?  Well, the coyotes are on the run right now.  Its hot here.  This is the time of year when they’re almost non-existent during the day.  Its obvious  that the fire is stirring them up.  And, bears and mountain lions in the mountains are definitely being stirred up.  If people who live around there don’t have any bear mace, they need to have something.  I’m sure within the next week or so, we’ll read about some wild animal  encounters in our local newspaper.
