People are regularly asking if Bear Mace will work on a Mountain Lion. And, while I can’t legally give any advice on how to handle yourself if you’re face to face with a mountain lion, I think a little bit of common sense will help.
Bear Mace is effective enough to penetrate the thick bear fur and get to the eyes and skin of a bear. I think it stands to reason that it will also work on a mountain lion as well as any other large animal. But, even with bears, you have to be careful. An agitated bear or mountain lion is still a dangerous thing. Your goal in spraying one of these large animals is merely to disorient them long enough for you to high tail it outta there. Again, while I can’t give any advice on exactly what to do, I can tell you what I do when I’m out in the woods. Actually, I hike quite a bit and I carry my Bear Mace with me where ever I go. I haven’t had to use it yet, but am prepared to when the time comes. And, whether I use it on a bear or rattlesnake or whatever, I have it and know that I have an extra level of protection.
