Face to Face with a Bear. Got MACE?
This may seem like a silly title, but let me assure you, my intention is to get your attention. Bear attacks are not a silly matter. And, Spring and Fall are when most bear attacks happen as more people are outside and bears are more active. So, don’t take any chances if you’re hiking or living near bear country. Rivers, Forests, Mountains and such are prime locations for Black, Brown and Grizzly Bears. This is certainly a case where an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Purchasing a can of Bear Mace may just save your life. Even if all it does is provide you with a sense of security, isn’t that still a pretty good investment? Regardless, Bear MACE or Guardian Alaska Bear Spray or both highly effective at repelling bears if they get near you. However, experts advise not to simply spray the bear at first sighting. By all means, if the bear is aggressive or attacking, you need to do what you have to protect yourself. However, if the bear is a safe distance away, most experts advise to merely make loud noises and throw rocks or sticks in the direction of the bear, but not at the bear. Many times, they will simply leave.
