Ever used MACE on a Bear?

Have you ever sprayed bear mace onto a bear?  Probably not.  But, if you have, you’ve probably seen quite a reaction from the poor bear.  The stuff is brutal.

In fact, experts caution against spraying bear mace onto a bear willy nilly or just on the first sight of the bear.  That’s right.  They urge anyone who comes into an encounter with a bear, unless its an outright immediate attack, the person should first try to frighten the bear.   I know what you’re thinking….Heck!  I’m frightened!  But, seriously, by screaming, throwing sticks and rocks and just generally trying to get the bear to leave is what they recommend.  If that doesn’t work or, of course, if the bear is aggressively coming at you, then, by all means use the bear mace to defend yourself and hopefully prevent a bear attack.  Keep in mind that if the bear is overly aggressive, it may be a mother bear with young cubs nearby and just because you get away from her, doesn’t mean there aren’t others to be concerned about.
