How to Get the Self Defense Protection You Need

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

Many times, people will buy a self defense weapon without giving  much thought to the actual situation they’re wanting protection from.  What I mean is they just go buy a weapon.  But, they don’t ask the basic questions like:  Is this for me or my daughter?  If for my daughter, how will she carry it?  Will it be in her purse?  Her car?  Her belt loop?  And, if its for her, what situation am I wanting her to have protection from?  Is she protecting against a dorm room break in or rape?  Is she needing protection while walking from her car to work at night?  Is she needing protection while exercising at the park?

All these variables need to be taken into account before purchasing a self defense weapon.  For instance, pepper spray is a highly effective self defense weapon for a home invasion and, in many cases, while walking from car to  store.  However, while exercising, wind can be a factor.  And, a small spray of pepper spray, if fairly windy, will probably just blow away, possibly even back onto her.

So, again, these things need to be given thought before you spend your hard earned money on a weapon.

TASER Gun Models

Saturday, August 10, 2013
posted by SmartStun 11:33 AM

There are several models of TASER Guns that are currently available on the civilian market.

The first, we’ll list is the C2.  This is one of the more popular models as its price point is one of the lowest, yet its still as effective as the other models.  Its ergonomic shape fits many hands.  And, its sold in various kits that supply all you need to protect yourself or your loved one.  Generally the C2 Kits sell for between $300-400.

The next is the M26C.  This model is also quite popular as its not much more expensive and it looks more like a traditional handgun.  Its very easy to carry and very easy to aim and use.  The M26C is sold in a kit that includes 4 live cartridges.  So, other than a holster and/or training cartridges, you really don’t need anything else.  These generally sell for around $500 although you can find incredible sales from time to time.

The next model is the X26C.  Slightly smaller than the M model and it adds some technological features.  But, its quite pricey, generally around $1000.  Most people either go with the M model for price savings, or go on to the next model, the newest model of TASER Gun discussed below.

The newest model for the civilian market is the TASER X2 Home Defender.  Priced at about $1400, it has the ability shoot warning sparks while the cartridge is loaded.  It also has the ability to hold and shoot up to 2 cartridges at the same time.  So, if the user misses the first, or if there are 2 targets, the user is still protected.

Regardless the model of TASER Gun you choose, you’ll be happy with your selection.

TASER, for a Flashlight Stun Gun?

Wednesday, August 7, 2013
posted by SmartStun 12:16 PM

You may be aware by now that TASER has released its first ever, non-shooting stun gun.  That’s right, they’ve released the StrikeLight Direct Contact Flashlight Stun Gun.

TASER StrikeLightI’m anxious to see how well it sales.  Its a little higher priced than most flashlight stun guns, but of course, it has the the quality and brand recognition of TASER behind it.  And, I have compared it to other similar weapons we carry.  Quite honestly, I like the TASER model very much.

Its small, but not too small.  Its well built, you can tell as soon as you put it into your hand.  The flashlight is ultra bright.  The stun, while relatively low in voltage and amperage, is still quite effective.  Most people are not aware that all models of TASER Guns generate relatively low voltages and amperages.  But, of course, we know them to be very effective.  The StrikeLight is just the same.

Rechargeable battery that’s built in and an AC adapter comes free.  Its a complete self defense weapon.  And, even though its only been out for a few weeks now, sales are relatively brisk for the weapon.  Find out for yourself why, by ordering the TASER StrikeLight today!

Which Stun Gun to Get?

Saturday, July 6, 2013
posted by SmartStun 7:46 AM

Oftentimes, people ask us which stun gun they should get.  And, this is a reasonable question to ask.  However, the answer is not always so simple.  There are several factors that have to be taken into account.

Primarily, someone will need to consider what style and shape of stun gun to get that they will be able to carry and use effectively.  Some like mini stun guns because they are small and some like batons as they offer a reach, especially towards an aggressive, attacking dog.

But, one thing that will always need to be achieved, is to obtain a stun gun that has high amperage.  3 milliamps is pretty much the average for good quality stun guns and this is generally sufficient.  However, the Barracuda line of stun guns delivers 4.5 milliamps, a full 50% increase over most.

Pepper Spray

Wednesday, June 19, 2013
posted by SmartStun 12:20 PM

Some people say that stun guns don’t work.  Others say Taser Guns aren’t effective either.  But, I’ve never heard anyone say they don’t believe Pepper Spray works.

The fact is, pepper spray DOES work.  And, while, yes, there may be the one in one hundred thousand person who can keep movingmace-pepper-spray-pocket-model forward aggressively when sprayed with defense spray, that occurrence is very rare.  Not only is it rare, even that one person would tell you the stuff was nasty and they were miserable even though they were able to continue moving through it.  So, to me, that’s like saying its about as effective as carrying a .38 caliber handgun.  Yes, some people, even when shot can keep moving through the pain, but it definitely slows them down and its rare that anyone can keep moving aggressively towards their victim.

So, regardless of what brand of pepper spray you buy, I mean, even regardless of their so-called SHU ratings, they’re all bloody hot and very nasty to feel.  Carry whatever type of dispenser your feel comfortable with and know that you’ve got one of the best self defense weapons available to you today.  Also, don’t overlook buying a pepper gun as a great solution as they also pack in the pepper formula, but they deliver the payload much quicker to the target…..and, usually at greater distances.

TASER Guns Increasingly the Choice for Law Enforcement

Sunday, June 9, 2013
posted by SmartStun 8:04 AM

The law enforcement community loves TASER Guns.  Why?  Simple.  They are effective at stopping most people and they don’t run the chance of actually killing someone.

Okay, let’s clarify one thing:  I did say “effective at stopping MOST people”.  We have to acknowledge that no weapon is 100% effective against 100% of the people 100% of the time.  I mean, you can use a knife on someone.  Knives can stop someone, right?  But, they can also NOT stop someone.  Even a bullet from a gun can stop someone, right?  But, we also have to acknowledge the sometimes, when shot, people are still able to go after their victim.  Its a fact.  But, more times than not,TASER Guns are highly effective at stopping most people.

And, add to this the fact that officers don’t have to worry about investigations after shooting someone with a TASER, they are much more comfortable in using this non lethal weapon to A) protect themselves; B) protect you; and, C) stop the bad guy (or girl) to get them off the street and put away.

While many police departments have carried the TASER X26 for a number of years, now, they are beginning to carry the newest model, the TASER X2.  The X2 is unique in that it can start by firing a warning spark to let someone know they’re about to get hit.  And, if needed, the TASER Gun can then fire not one, but two shots at two people and bring them down at the same time.  Or, the second shot can be used as a back up, should the officer miss the first time.  And, now, as of this month, June, 2013, the X2 Defender is being made available to the civilian market.  Check’em out and you’ll see why the law enforcement community loves to rely on their TASER Guns.

Sales of Stun Guns Skyrocket!

Sunday, June 9, 2013
posted by SmartStun 7:55 AM

The sales volume of stun guns over the past few months has just exploded!  It seems people all around the country are either concerned that crime is heading their way or they’ve already been impacted and are arming themselves.  Whatever the reason, people are continually wanting to know which stun guns to get.

This is really a personal matter as everyone is different in terms of what they are wanting to protect against and what their specific situation is.  But, bottom line, getting a good quality stun gun is paramount.  With that being said, let me first cover what is NOT a good stun gun.  Any stun gun that pushes ultra high voltage, say, more than 5 million volts is most definitely NOT a good quality stun gun.  This may go against conventional wisdom, but it certainly does NOT go against technical reason.  Here’s why…..

A battery is the source of the voltage and the “stun”, or amperage, of a stun gun.  And, whatever battery is used can only produce so much voltage and amperage.  Technically speaking, once a stun gun starts producing so much voltage, it comes by reducing the amount of amperage, or “stun”, that can be produced.  And, the point I’m making here is what good is super high voltage that doesn’t produce enough of the “stun” to do anything?  Voltage does not stun anyone.  Amperage is what penetrates into the body causing mental and physical confusion and spasms.  So, don’t be fooled by ultra high voltage.

Secondly, any stun gun that costs, oh, say $10 is not going to be a good quality stun gun.  I mean, think about it.  Most good quality stun guns cost from $40-75, some a little more, but this is a reasonable amount to spend to buy a stun gun.  These cheap stun guns on ebay for $8 – $20 are just that, cheap stun guns.  Don’t buy them…..or, at least don’t buy them to protect yourself with because they won’t do any good.

Now, beyond that, there are many good choices of stun guns.  I’ll list a few brands here so you can research them and find the model that will work best for you.  Omega Stun Guns, Stun Master Stun Guns, ZAP Stun Guns, Phazzer Stun Guns and The Runt Stun Gun are all good quality products.  For one last point, the Barracuda Stun Guns are the highest amperage stun guns available as they produce 4.5 milliamps of current.  Again, amperage is the “stun” that people feel.  5 milliamps is considered lethal.  So, 4.5 milliamps is almost to that lethal limit.
